👜The iconic Chaturanga line of bags, Haute Couture and Pret a porter, is the result of two intuitions, which come together in a series of unique artefacts: there is a textile part and a metal part, made by hand, respectively, by Maria Marchese, who is making her official debut as an accessories designer, and by master Florentine goldsmith and designer Valerio Salvadori, creator of the Redó Florence 1989 collection of jewellery and fashion accessories. The entire Chaturanga project is the fruit of their ingenuity.
✂Maria Marchese exploits the concept of refashion, understood as a practice that recovers discarded fabrics or materials: she therefore draws on fabrics from the 1960s/70s/80s inherited from her grandmothers, part of the well-known textile tradition and production of the Como area, and the modern idea of mix&match, i.e. mixing and matching, in a sophisticated version linked to the chessboard (to its shape and multiple meanings).
The spider, a symbol of weaving, an auspicious icon economically and otherwise, was chosen for the part made with goldsmithing techniques, and in this case, a spider that, on that chessboard, is meant to represent the ideal of the queen, i.e., of the winning woman.
👛Alessandro Mendini pure cotton fabric with multicolour geometric print, pink pure cotton fabric, red & blue striped cotton grosgrain, green python print faux leather, white & blue striped pure silk lining. Red & blue cotton grosgrain handle - cm.17
The accessory is a small spider-shaped sculpture, made with the lost-wax casting technique in 24Kt palladium-plated bronze.
The Chaturanga Pret a porter version, made from a fabric by the well-known designer, architect and artist Alessandro Mendini, is a real eye-catcher. The artist's colours and pop print perfectly match the monochrome fabric in the intense pink shade, which enhances the design. The rigour of the red & blue stripe gives the bag a touch of British sophistication, enhanced by the pure silk stripe of the lining. The animal print green faux leather part breaks up the geometric rigour, giving it a hint of sauvagerie.
Impressive, like the entire Chaturanga line, it accompanies the personality of a conscious woman who is not afraid to stand out.
